Shropshire RCC and the Wyre Community Land Trust have teamed up in a new venture to support the sustainable management of ancient woodland in the Wyre Forest whilst offering an affordable supply of firewood to local residents.
The Wyre Community Land Trust is a social enterprise that manages over 100 hectares of woodland working closely with the local community. Shropshire Rural Communities Charity runs various projects aimed at making a difference to Shropshire’s rural communities. The partnership between Shropshire Rural Community Council and the Wyre Community Land Trust is helping to find a different way to provide wood fuel to our local communities.
Customers will be able to access a range of products including vented log bags, pre-fabricated log stores that came delivered full of logs (ideal for those with limited storage space). Logs are billeted and air-dried until they get to moisture content of below 25%, normally lower. Ordering through the fuel buying scheme means deliveries can be made in bulk, therefore lowering the unit price for customers.
This year the project is being piloted in South Shropshire with a view to eventually expanding to the whole of Shropshire.
