Awareness events for diabetes taking place next month

Community Resource is coming to St Martins and Weston Rhyn next month to share advice and support on managing Type 2 diabetes.

We are hosting the Diabetes Awareness events from 12pm to 2.30pm on Tuesday, 5 April at Weston Rhyn Village Institute, and from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday 12 April at Gobowen All Saints Church Hall.

The Gobowen event is free attend while the cost for Weston Rhyn attendees is £2, which includes a light lunch. Places need to be booked in advance. Activities will include a talk about recognising symptoms and how to adjust your lifestyle to reduce the impact diabetes has on your health. There will also be a presentation on diet by Janet Stuart, from NHS Community Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service.

While anyone is welcome to attend, the sessions are aimed at those who have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and their families, and to those who are concerned about developing Type 2 diabetes.

Community Resource Development Officer Susie Hancock said: "Diabetes is becoming increasingly common and can have severe impact if it is not controlled. Many people however, have been able to manage their Type 2 diabetes through minor adjustments to their lifestyle.

“We will give some "lifestyle hacks" on diet, activity, medication, foot and eye care which could help people to minimise the impact of diabetes on their health. I hope people in the Three Parishes area will support this free, one-off event."

For more information or to reserve your place, please contact Susie Hancock on susie.hancock@community-resource.org.uk or phone 01743 342160.

Diabetes Awareness is part of a series of information events that have been commissioned by the Three Parishes Big Local programme, with support from Shropshire Council. Upcoming events include living with hearing loss and managing arthritis.
