Our New Name

Over the last 60 years we have had a number of different names: the Community Council of Shropshire, CCS, Shropshire RCC, the RCC, SRCC.

Shropshire Rural Communities Charity has been our operating name for the past nine years. It was introduced because we would be mistaken as an affiliate of the council and is often shortened to 'Shropshire RCC', which is quicker to say and takes up less room when written.

All those names make quite a list, which has become pretty confusing! Plus, none of them have ever really captured who we are and the breadth of our work.

Changing our name to Community Resource and updating our branding allows us to move on from the past, giving us a fresh start as we grow and evolve as an organisation.

If want to make sure we're here for 60 more years (and beyond) it's important that as many people as possible know who we are, what we do and who we do it for.

Investing in our organisation now will allow us to continue to reach those who need support, but also reach those who might be interested in our work and want to support us.

And in a time when there are a lot of charities competing for attention, it's vital we stand out and share our messages clearly and concisely.

We've changed our name but our commitment to supporting communities facing challenges across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin continues.

The rebrand process

This new brand is a culmination of over 18 months of work that fundamentally looked at:

  • who we are,
  • what we do; and
  • who we do it for.

We recognised the breadth of work we do and how that can be challenging to explain and for people to remember. But we also recognised that the different areas we work in was also our strength – we are a resource to the community with the knowledge, experience and flexibility to offer support where needed.

As part of the development process we explored a number of options but ultimately it was the brand that captured this messaging that we felt best reflected the points above, and would give us the tools to deliver our messaging in a clear, consistent way.

We had hoped to launch our new brand earlier this year, but Covid was still causing such a huge impact on daily lives that the logistics of delivering a project of this size would have been incredibly challenging. However, now that day-to-day life is much closer to the pre-Covid 'normal', as an organisation we have the capacity to able to move forward with it.

Also, we know the pandemic has had a huge effect on the sector, and charities are working harder than ever to grab attention of potential supporters. Therefore, it's vital we stand out amongst the crowd.

One of our key aims is for people to recognise the various projects we deliver and going forward, this new branding will make it much clearer to people to see who we are and what we do. Our hope is that this will then help those that we do it for to find us and access the support they need.

There are plans we have in the works, particularly around fundraising, that we have been waiting until after our rebrand to progress with, and we're excited to do so next year. We will also be sharing more about how our work impacts Shropshire communities. We're proud of what we do and we want more people to know about it.
